The history and mission of the academy dates back to the 1990s when it was simply a dream of former president Fr. Robert J. Welsh, S.J. '54. It continues today where new chapters of its story are now being written.

Established in 2019 as part of Saint Ignatius High School, The Welsh Academy is a Catholic all-boys school for grades 6-8 in the City of Cleveland for boys from families of modest economic means.

As they depart The Welsh Academy for their respective high schools, the first class of eighth grade graduates reflects on the journey of their past three years. These first 22 students at this school had a journey unlike any other, and it has shaped them in important and lasting ways.
On Wednesday, June 1, The Welsh Academy hosted the 2022 Family Welcome Night and Blue Blazer Ceremony. Through this event, we welcomed our newest Wildcats to our community while also celebrating the ten Saint Ignatius bound alumni with their first Blue Blazers, signifying the official start of their journey as Saint Ignatius students.
