Our Mission Is Essential

COVID-19 has presented a tremendous challenge for Saint Ignatius High School to balance our mission of providing an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit education along with the health and safety recommendations of leading healthcare experts. Due to a rise in the number of positive cases, we are pivoting to virtual learning beginning Monday, November 16.

Saint Ignatius High School

Returning to The Welsh Academy

The Welsh Academy is committed to providing our students with the same level of quality education as it has been. We are equally committed to the health, safety and well being of our students, families and faculty. We are working closely with Saint Ignatius High School leadership and the University Hospitals COVID-19 Response Team.

Class Schedule

School will be held five days a week. Sixth and seventh-grade boys will be on campus, in the classroom 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Friday. The two grades will be in different classrooms.

Health and Safety

Facemasks or shields are required of all students and Welsh Academy faculty and staff. Breakfast, lunch, and snack will still be supplied each day, but will be "grab and go" style.

Each family will need to complete an at-home health check before your son leaves for school each day. Please keep your son home if he:
  • Registers a temperature higher than 100.0 F
  • Has a cough
  • Has a sore throat
  • Is experiencing shortness of breath
  • Is experiencing a loss of taste and smell
  • Is experiencing GI upset
  • Has been in contact with anyone who has recently (within the last 14 days) tested positive for COVID-19
Before your son enters the campus, he will have a temperature check. If his body temperature registers at 100.0 F or higher, he will need to return home.

Informed by the recent study from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the school is committed to having all students on campus five days a week.

The Welsh Academy requests that no travel outside of the State of Ohio take place two weeks prior to the start of Welsh Welcome Days on Tuesday, August 11. If travel is already planned and/or essential, the school will work with students to return to school 14 days after the end of their travel. Read the latest CDC Guidelines on what to do if you or your son becomes sick.

We would also suggest that you think about any sleepovers, large events, and attending highly populated areas in which you are not sure that others are following State of Ohio and CDC Guidelines.  All of this is in an effort to keep the entire school community healthy and safe.
