Founding Principal Mary Ann Vogel:
Dr. Vogel is the Founding Principal of The Welsh Academy, joining the Saint Ignatius High School community in 2018. She has her doctorate in education and a long career in educational administration. In fact, The Welsh Academy is not the first school she started; Dr. Vogel helped launch St. Martin de Porres High School in Cleveland in 2004.
A resident of Collinwood, Dr. Vogel is an active member of St. Vitus Parish and Cleveland’s Slovenian cultural community. She has a pet cat, Sheba, and enjoys taking pictures of sunsets on Lake Erie.
Dean of Students Kevin Johnson ’10:
Mr. Johnson is Dean of Students for The Welsh Academy, moving over full-time from the high school Healthy & Physical Education department. Mr. Johnson rejoined Saint Ignatius in 2017 after earning his bachelor’s degree in 2015 from Baldwin-Wallace University. In addition to his Dean of Students role, Mr. Johnson will teach Health & PE at the academy.
Mr. Johnson currently lives in Garfield Heights and earned state championships awards in Track and Field in the 100m and 200m events in 2014 while a student at Saint Ignatius, as well as national titles in track while at BW. He has coached football and track at the high school level.
