Band

The most visible, and loudest representative of Saint Ignatius High School is our band. With various opportunities to participate, students can take part in the band program regardless of years of experience or choice of instrument. The Steel Pan Ensemble is an example of the evolution of the program and its ever-growing offerings.

Parents don't need to worry about their sons at Saint Ignatius High School. They'll be challenged on an individual level, presented with opportunities to learn and lead, and given every chance to succeed. All of this is done with a love and care for every student that walks our halls.

Saint Ignatius Band Boosters

The Band Boosters is a parent volunteer group that is instrumental in the success of the Marching Band and Flag Corps. This group provides significant aid in making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. In addition to chaperoning, Booster volunteers help raise money to offset various costs within the organization. Any parent involved in instrumental music at Saint Ignatius is welcome to join this wonderful organization!

Various ways the Band Boosters aid the Instrumental Music Department:

  • Chaperones: Parents help load and unload the busses, ride the bus to and from the game, remain with the band in the end zone, and help with whatever is needed during the game.
  • 3rd Quarter Food: Parents provide the band with food during the 3rd quarter at most home games and occasionally feed the opposing band as well. Parents help set up, serve, and clean up afterward.
  • Air Show: Parents staff a tent at the Cleveland Air Show (this is a fundraiser for the Band Boosters).
  • Uniforms: Parents help fit and hem band and flag corps uniforms in the summer before Marching Band Camp begins. This group also helps fit and hem tuxedos for the Symphonic Band season.
  • Concessions: Parents staff the concession stand at the Saint Ignatius Basketball games to sell snacks and drinks (this is a Band Boosters fundraiser).
  • Rite Aid Marathon: Volunteers are needed to set up, pass out water, and clean up after the marathon (this is a Band Boosters fundraiser).
  • Social Events: Parents are needed to help plan and organize a fun social event for the Band and Flag Corps.
  • 50/50 Raffle: Parents sell 50/50 raffle tickets at home football games. Volunteers get free admission to the game (another Band Boosters fundraiser).
  • Concert Receptions: Parents help set up baked goods, serve beverages and help clean up for the reception held in the Breen Center lobby after the Band concerts.
  • Welcome Back Cookout: Parents are needed for the first event of the year, a welcome back cookout to kick off Band Camp. Parents help set up, serve and clean up.

  • Marching Band

    The Saint Ignatius Wildcat Marching Band is the largest and most active of all the music groups. This group is open to all musicians regardless of experience. The Marching Band performs at all Saint Ignatius football games, numerous parades, and takes a trip to other cities every other year. Members of this group are expected to attend Band Camp during July and August and be present for all performances. This is a class that meets during the school day with a few after-school rehearsals starting in the Fall.

  • Symphonic Band

    The Symphonic Band begins rehearsals following the Marching Season, generally in early November. This ensemble focuses on the musicality, intonation, balance, and blend required to perform concert band literature at a high-level of musicianship. Performances include the OMEA Large Group Adjudicated Event plus up to three additional concerts, culminating with the Saint Ignatius High School Graduation Ceremony.

  • Jazz Ensemble

    The Saint Ignatius High School Jazz Ensemble (SIJE) is a curricular ensemble that meets after school twice a week. The group performs swing, funk, latin, rock, and other jazz based ballads during rehearsals and at concerts held throughout the year.

  • Pep Band

    The Saint Ignatius High School Wildcat Pep Band is an organization dedicated to supporting the teams and entertaining the fans at home basketball and hockey games and is open to all members of the marching and concert bands.

  • Pit Orchestra

    Each Spring, the Saint Ignatius Harlequins put on a full musical performance for members of the Saint Ignatius community. Depending on what instrumentation is needed, the musical pit provides the music for these events. The pit meets in advance of the performances to rehearse the music, and is then present for all shows.

  • Flag Corps

    The Saint Ignatius Flag Corps is a performance ensemble consisting of girls from all-girl Catholic high schools, used to enhance the visual aspect and formations of the SIHS Wildcat Marching Band during Band Shows, Half-Time Shows, Parades, and other performances. Established in 1980 with only eight members, the Saint Ignatius Flag Corps has grown to an average size of eighteen members and is considered one of the top flag-twirling ensembles in the area.

  • Steel Pan Ensemble

    This group rehearses weekly in anticipation of two concert performances each school year. The goal of the Saint Ignatius Steel Pan Ensemble is to present excellent performances of quality literature in the steel pan idiom, with special emphasis on original music by contemporary composers. The Steel Pan Ensemble is an audition based group, with auditions in early fall.
