History

The History Department guides students through the history of our world, including courses in government, entrepreneurship and economics. Five AP classes are available to students looking to learn from the past to prepare for the future.

Being with students all day keeps you young. But it requires work to have that remain the case. That's because each year a teacher gets older and the students never do. The gap grows wider, but the rewards of teaching grow with it.

Take one step onto our campus, and it’s hard not to appreciate that Saint Ignatius is a school with a sense of history. But while our campus may be old, there’s nothing antiquated about the way we approach learning in the History Department. We recognize that the study of history and the social sciences involves far more than just memorizing dates and facts. Students are challenged to engage the lessons of the past and apply their knowledge to contemporary issues. The cornerstone of the Saint Ignatius History Department is a rich and challenging curriculum that stresses critical thinking, research skills, and the communication of ideas through both traditional writing assessments and digital media. In addition to our standard college preparatory track, students also have the opportunity to earn Advanced Placement in history and social science courses in each of their four years.
