Announcing our National Merit Scholars

We proudly recognize 33 National Merit Scholars for the 2018-2019 school year. Of those, 14 students are named National Merit Semifinalists, 15 are named Commended Scholars and four are named National Hispanic Scholars. Together they are among those who earned the highest scores on the 2017 PSAT.

Graeme Elliott Agronin

Graeme is part of the Green Team, Chinese club, C.A.T., PodCats and the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society. He also plays CYO basketball and works at Robeks. He plans to study pre-medicine or biomedical engineering at The Ohio State University or Vanderbilt University.

Alexander Edward Anderson

Alexander is involved in Model UN, Friends with L'Arche, National Honor Society, Labre Ministry and the Spanish Honors Society. He hopes to study engineering or mathematics at The Ohio State University or the University of Chicago.

Santiago Baena

Santiago is involved in Model UN, Ignatians for Peace & Justice, and is on the track & field team. He hopes to study political science or pre-law at The Ohio State University or the University of Chicago.

Dillon Bangasser

Dillon is on the cross country and track & field teams and is a part of Ignatians for Peace & Justice, the National Spanish Honor Society, Model UN, Pre-Med Society and the National Honors Society. He hopes to study biology or bioengineering at the University of Notre Dame or Duke University.

Adam Joseph Benevento

Adam is a part of Kino Cats, PodCats and the Hydroponics Club. He hopes to study computer engineering or electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University or Northwestern University following graduation.

Matthew Blouch

Matthew is a part of the cross country and track & field teams. He is also involved in the National Honors Society, the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, peer tutoring, Pre-Med Society, Spring Into Action and the Christmas Food Drive. He plans to study engineering at either Dartmouth College or the University of Michigan.

Phillip John Catanzaro

Phillip is on the volleyball team and is involved in the National Honor Society and serves as a peer tutor. He plans to study psychology or biology at Stanford University or Dartmouth College.

Vincent Peter DiFilippo

Vincent is a part of the band, jazz band and pep band and is involved in the National Honor Society and serves as a liturgical musican and peer tutor. He plans to study engineering or computer science at the University of Notre Dame or The Ohio State University.

Nathaniel Milan Dolinar

Nathaniel is on the track & field team and is involved in the Conservative Causus, Student Senate, the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, National Honor Society, Pre-Engineering Society, Inklings, Boy Scouts and is an altar server. He plans to study mechanical engineering at the University of Rochester or Purdue University.

Michael Edward Donnelly

Michael is a part of Model UN, Academic Challenge, Ignatian Alliance, Democratic Ignatians on Politics, National Honor Society, National French Honors Society and is a peer tutor. He plans to study mathematics or political science at the University of Chicago or Princeton University.

Michael Cafferkey Doyle

Michael is on the track & field team and he is involved in Hydrocats, the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, peer tutoring, the Table Tennis Club, National Honor Society and the Engineering Society. He plans to study engineering at either Notre Dame or Northwestern University.

Charles Theodore Farrington

Charles is involved in Student Senate, National Honor Society, Academic Challenge, Latin club and the Greek Student Union. He plans to pursue an engineering major at either Case Western Reserve University or Cleveland State University.

Luke Stephen Griffiths

Luke is on the track & field team and is involved in the National French Honors Society, Pre-engineering Society, National Honor Society, Student Senate and is a peer tutor. He plans to pursue an engineering major at Princeton University or Vanderbilt University.

Martin Anthony Hiti

Martin is a part of the band and is involved in the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honors Society, Democratic Ignatians on Politics, Model UN, Circus Company and is a peer tutor. He hopes to study Spanish and political science at Georgetown University or Columbia University.

Samuel Joseph Hoag

Samuel is involved in the National Honor Society, National Spanish Honors Society, Ignatian Alliance, Ignatians for Peace & Justice, Academic Challenge, Democratic Ignatians on Politics, Pre-Engineering Society and serves as a peer tutor. He plans to study computer engineering at either Northwestern University or the University of Pittsburgh.

John Christopher Klym

John is involved in Model UN, Pre-Law Society, CAT Pack, Ignatian Global Scholars and is a peer tutor. He hopes to study political science at Georgetown University or the University of Notre Dame.

Kyle Kolick

Kyle is a peer tutor and is involved in Model UN, Arrupe CAT Pack, the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, National Spanish Honors Society and National Honor Society. He hopes to attend Columbia University or Georgetown University following graduation.

Gregory Brian Kondas

Gregory is a peer tutor and is involved in Model UN. He plans to study cognitive science or computer science at Tufts University or the University of Michigan following graduation.

Thomas Michael Krisak

Thomas works a part-time job and is involved in the Green Team, yearbook, PodCats, and the St. Thomas More youth group. He plans to study aerospace engineering at UCLA or the University of Michigan.

Zachary Robert LaPorte

Zachary plays football and is involved in the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, Green Team, peer tutoring, and the Spanish Honors Society. He hopes to pursue an accounting and finance degree at Boston College or Vanderbilt University.

Eric Lauritz Larsen

Eric is a part of the volleyball team and is involved in Student Senate and Saint Bernard Movers. He also serves as a Wilderness Retreat leader. He hopes to attend The Ohio State University or the University of Notre Dame following graduation.

Gerald Michael Mastellone Jr

Gerald is a part of the DJ Club, serves as a Eucharistic Minister, Mass lector, and church musician and is involved in the marching band, jazz band, Student Senate, National Honor Society, Ignatians for Peace & Justice, the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, C.A.T., Ultimate Frisbee and is a youth group leader. He plans to study molecular biochemistry at either the University of Notre Dame or Washington University in St. Louis.

Daniel Yaroslav Rakowsky

Daniel is a member of the Chorus and Cat-o'-Tonics and is involved in SIEntA, Boy Scouts, the Pre-Med Society and plays the guitar. He hopes to study business or biology at John Carroll University or Case Western Reserve University.

David Patrick James Ryan

David Patrick is involved in Ignatians for Peace & Justice, C.A.T., Labre Ministry, Friends with L'Arche, and the Arrupe Neighborhood Partnership. He also is involved in SIEntA and Boy Scouts. He hopes to study history or art history at Case Western Reserve University or Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland.

Nicholas James Saul

Nicholas is on the cross country and track & field teams and is involved in the Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society, the Christmas Food Drive, Pre-Med Society, and peer tutoring. He hopes to attend either the University of Michigan or Miami University following graduation.

Ian Patrick Thompson

Ian is on the crew team and is involved in PodCats, C.A.T., Friends with L'Arche and the Labre Ministry. He hopes to study computer science or computer engineering at MIT or Carnegie Mellon University.

Luke Patrick Van de Walle

Luke is a part of the football and track & field teams and is involved in The EYE, National Honor Society and PodCats. He hopes to study pre-med or political science after graduation.

Leonardo Costa Lins Villa-Forte

Leonardo is involved in policy debate, peer tutoring, Model UN, Saint Joseph of Arimathea Pallbearer Society leader, The EYE editor and writer, and plays the piano. He plans on attending Harvard University or the University of Michigan to study physics or philosophy.

William Andrew Wolf

William is a member of the Green Team and is involved in the yearbook and Model UN. He hopes to study engineering at Stanford or the Univeristy of Michigan.
