The newly renovated first and second floors of the Main Building officially opened to students on Tuesday, November 26th. The first floor features a spacious library designed for silent study, a much larger Walton Center with enhanced resources for students and staff, and a large student common area with various tables and seating for students to work collaboratively, socialize, and relax. Small group rooms are available on the first floor.
The second floor is the new home to School and College Counseling with improved meeting spaces for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The Center for Ignatian Pedagogy (CIP) is also located on the second floor, with an instructional action research center, a learning lab, a dedicated seminar room, and classroom space.
Saint Ignatius principal Dr. Anthony Fior '02 said about the newly renovated space,
"Having our mental health counseling and college counseling in one center, and a quiet study area for students at the heart of our campus, signals to the community that those things are really really important to us."
Junior David Takacs, when asked his impression of the new spaces, said,
"I really like how there's a lot of spaces to just chill out with friends and I love how they're separate from the spaces where you can really, you know, go to study and get better in whatever class it might be."
This is just one phase of our ambitious academic facilities enhancement plan. As we open the newly renovated space, we see steel rising from the ground for DiSanto Hall, a new academic building with a large group instruction area and student common areas on all three floors. DiSanto Hall will also house new athletic offices, an improved, larger, and much-needed athletic training space, and a varsity locker room. We are on track for the completion of DiSanto Hall in August 2025.
