Our Mission Is Essential

COVID-19 has presented a tremendous challenge for Saint Ignatius High School to balance our mission of providing an academically rigorous, Catholic, Jesuit education along with the health and safety recommendations of leading healthcare experts. Due to a rise in the number of positive cases, we are pivoting to virtual learning beginning Monday, November 16.

Saint Ignatius High School President Fr. Raymond P. Guiao, S.J. ’82 announced the appointment of Anthony T. Fior, Ed.D. ’02 to the position of Principal. Dr. Fior currently serves as Chair of the Theology Department. He will officially assume his new duties as the school's 19th principal on July 1, 2020.

Prior to joining his Alma Mater in 2014, first as a Campus Minister and later a Theology teacher, he held faculty and administrative positions at De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis and Cristo Rey Columbus High School.

“Anthony’s time in the classroom, his deep understanding of Jesuit education, his love for his Catholic faith, and his ability to lead in a thoughtful, conscientious way positions him perfectly to serve as Principal of our school,” says Fr. Guiao.

Fior’s education includes three degrees, all from Saint Louis University: a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and History, a Master of Arts in Systematic Theology, and a Doctorate of Education in Catholic School Leadership. He is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of his new role.

“This will be an incredible opportunity to serve a place I love that has meant a lot to me,” Fior says. “I hope that in my time as principal, people will see me as someone who listens, who deepens the Catholic identity of the school, and continues to strive for academic excellence.”

Faith, family and education are what Fior describes as the greatest loves of his life, and he credits Saint Ignatius High School with nurturing these.

“The formation I received at West 30th and Lorain launched me on an unexpected trajectory and gave me my vocation as an Ignatian educator,” he says. “My desire to serve as the next Principal of Saint Ignatius High School erupts out of my gratitude for my formation here.”

Fior has seen Jesuit education in action from many angles outside the traditional classroom setting, including as a campus minister, coach, mission trip chaperone, extracurricular moderator and most recently as a department chair. Additionally, he is currently serving as one of the leaders of the school’s Vision ’30 strategic planning process.

“As principal I will walk with students and faculty, model excellence, and share in their work,” says Fior. “My guiding principle and North Star as the champion of teaching and learning will always be: What is best for students?”

Fior is married to Molly, a primary care physician assistant. They live in Bay Village with their 3-year-old son, Harry, and 10-month-old daughter, Bernadette. They are members of Saint Raphael Parish.
