MASS: Please join us for today's mass at noon in St Mary of the Assumption Chapel. Today we celebrate the faith and life witness of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. Fr Reim, SJ will be presiding. “The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”  Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MARTIN LUTHER KING: Today, Saint Ignatius High School recognizes the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King was a Baptist minister, civil rights activist, and Nobel Peace Prize winner who played a significant role in the American civil rights movement from the mid-1950's until his assassination in 1968. He was the driving force behind the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the March on Washington in 1963. Dr. King's tireless advocacy helped to bring about Civil and Voting Rights legislation. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., is remembered each year, on the third Monday in January, with a U.S. federal holiday in his memory since 1986.
BIRDING CLUB: Have you heard or seen in the news that some snowy owls have once again returned to Northeast Ohio?  They have traveled south for the next few winter months to catch some Cleveland warmth.  Next Tuesday, the Birding Club will venture to Edgewater and Wendy Park in hopes of seeing one of these magnificent creatures.  Hats, gloves, and layers are required.  We will leave after school on Tuesday from the Chapel steps and return to campus by 5:30pm.  Please contact Pedro Villa-Forte '23 or Mr. McCafferty for further details. CLIMBING CATS: Have you ever wanted to try rock climbing? The Climbing Cats meet every Wednesday at 11:40 in MB212. First timers climb for free! We are open to all ages and skill levels. Email Dominic Polito '22 or Mr. Rowell for more information.
SAINT IGNATIUS HIGH SCHOOL Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. 2022 Essay Contest
Theme: "More Than A Dream" Prompt: Is there a person, organization, or initiative that you think is continuing to live out Dr. King's 'dream? 'What would the 'next step' look like in this dream becoming a reality? How are you (and how are we) invited to participate in that next step?
 –Must be a Saint Ignatius High School student -One essay per student -Essays must be submitted electronically by January 27, 2022. -Essays must be original, typed double spaced, 250-500 words and submitted s a Microsoft Word document or PDF.
- Essays - will be judged on content, voice, creativity, grammatical structure and overall conformity to the theme.
-Winners - will be announced February4, 2022 Contest Rules:
- Awards - First place will receive $100, second place will receive $50, third place will receive $25.
