Director of Admissions Pat O'Rourke '90, a self-proclaimed "word nerd," brings you his Etymology Word of the Week. Every other week he presents an online Etymology lesson just for fun!
Tradition - "A practice or belief handed down from generation to generation.” From the Latin verb trado, tradere meaning “to hand down or hand over; to surrender,” which itself is a combination of the Latin preposition trans meaning “across, over” and the verb do, dare meaning “to give.”  (All information is from www.wikipedia.org, www.etymonline.com and/or www.dictionary.com).
