Harold C. Schott Library

Library Information and Policies

The Harold C. Schott Library at Saint Ignatius High School functions as an integral part of the total school program serving the students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Our primary goal is to form a student who is information literate, an independent learner, and one who contributes positively to the learning community and society in the service of Jesus Christ.

Library Hours

The library is open from 7:15 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on school days.

Borrowing Procedures

In order to borrow materials from the library, you must present your student I.D. number at the desk along with the materials you wish to check out. Circulating materials may be borrowed from the library for a period of 10 school days for books and periodicals and 3 days for cameras, video cameras, music CDs, and DVDs. Reference books, microphones, and items placed on reserve are overnight only. Renewals are permitted provided an item is not in demand. Anything charged to your account is your responsibility.

Books, Periodicals, Online Databases, and Audio-Visual Resources

There are more than 14,000 print books in the library; we also have over 500 eBooks available with remote access for students.  Information regarding these books can be found in the online catalog. The library subscribes to more than 100 print periodicals; students also have access to online periodicals via our subscriptioin databases. All databases are accessed via PowerSchool (Haiku) and all usernames and passwords for remote access to these resources can also be found on Haiku. Students may also borrow video cameras, digital cameras, microphones, and voice recorders from the library.

Computer Resources

The library has 60 networked multimedia PC workstations for student use; students are able to print documents in either color or black & white.  Students must obtain a computer card at the front desk before using a computer.  Students have access to their personal server space - "Z" drive from all networked school computers.

Student Computer Policies

Each student and parent have agreed to the Acceptable Use of Computers Policy at Saint Ignatius as stated in the student handbook.  If students wish to access the library's wireless network, they must have a signed parental BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) Student Agreement on file with the library.  To access either our wired or wireless network, students must login with their unique username and password in order to be authenticated.  The state-of-the-art technology resources are available to encourage your intellectual curiosity and growth. While technology can open up a world of educational and recreational pursuits, the technology resources at the library and used within the library are intended to be used for educational purposes only.   In order to serve the entire student body, we reserve the right to limit access at our discretion.
