The Honorable John V. Corrigan '38 Distinguished Alumnus Award

The Honorable John V. Corrigan '38 Distinguished Alumnus Award is given to an individual who has distinguished himself in his career and has exemplified being a "Man for Others."

In 1994, the Saint Ignatius Alumni Association inaugurated the Distinguished Alumnus Award. In 2005, this award was renamed to pay tribute to one of its own distinguished recipients, the late Hon. John V. Corrigan ’38. The award honors an alumnus who:

  • has distinguished himself through outstanding achievements in his chosen field or profession

  • uses his talents and skills for those in need, consistent with the theme, “Men for Others”

  • serves as a positive role model for Saint Ignatius High School students through consistent application of high moral and ethical standards and service to the school.

    Jerry came to appreciate the Jesuit way of teaching and living more and more after his graduation from Saint Ignatius. Although he didn't fully see it while he was a student, his time at West 30th and Lorain built a foundation of Ignatian values that has shaped his life and career.

  • Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Carney '59

    Tom Carney grew up an only child on the west side of Cleveland. A conversation with legendary Saint Ignatius coach John Wirtz spurred him into attending West Point. After his retirement as a lieutenant general, he said, "I believe I brought many men to Christ, in and out of the war zones of my history."
