Mission Trips

The Dominican Republic Mission Trip is organized through Creighton University’s Institute of Latin American Concern (ILAC.) Since the 1990s, Saint Ignatius students have participated in mission experiences to the Dominican Republic. Mission Trip participants would serve in a rural community assisting with a water infrastructure project.  Participants stay with a Dominican-host family who will embrace you as their son, sharing their rich faith and customs with you. Participants experience service, solidarity, hope, and joy amidst the challenges and struggles of poverty.

The Civil Rights Mission Pilgrimage is organized through the Jesuit Antiracism Sodality (JARS) of the Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus. Mission trip participants would fly to Atlanta and make a pilgrimage to Tuskegee, Selma, Montgomery, Birmingham, before returning to Atlanta. Mission trip participants will learn about and experience some of the most important sites of the Civil Rights Movement and its continued impact upon our country and Church. This is an educational, spiritual, cultural, and service immersion trip. By tracing the very steps of our country’s Civil Rights leaders, students will grow in their understanding of the history and spirituality of both our country and our Church. Please note, this is a Spring Break 2025 experience. 

The West Virginia Mission Trip is organized through the Wayne County Work Camp, a non-profit organization serving the rural poor. Mission Trip participants will learn about rural poverty, hunger, and affordable housing. Participants will engage in construction projects with skilled tradesmen to build and repair homes. Our delegation will grow in faith through service and simple living. Participants will come to know the families served through work, prayer, food, and friendship.   

The El Salvador Mission Trip is organized through the Diocese of Cleveland’s Latin American Mission (CLAM.) CLAM Missionaries have joyfully labored in El Salvador since 1964. Mission trip participants will enter into the Paschal Mystery through encountering the hardships and suffering faced by the Salvadoran people. Through these visits, participants also experience the faith, hope, joy, and love of the people. The trip explores the complex historical, spiritual, political, economic, and ecological realities of El Salvador. Special emphasis is placed upon the saints and martyrs of El Salvador.  The delegation will also visit the Externado San Jose Jesuit High School in San Salvador.  

The Los Angeles Mission Trip is organized through the Dolores Mission, the Jesuit parish in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. Mission trip participants will enter into kinship with the community through service and immersion experiences aimed at helping us all recognize our God-given dignity. Visits will include Homeboy Industries, Homegirl Café, Guadalupe Homeless Project, the Midnight Mission, Impacto Afterschool Program, and the St. Francis Community Center.  A focus of this trip is restorative justice, reconciliation, gang rehabilitation, poverty, and homelessness.

The Camden, New Jersey Mission Trip is organized through the Romero Center: a Catholic social service, community center that emphasizes issues of faith and justice. Camden, located adjacent to downtown Philadelphia, is considered one of the most impoverished areas in America. Mission trip participants will be exposed to many issues including poverty, homelessness, education, and hunger. Participants will complete service, tutor children, feed the hungry, visit the elderly, and assist adults with developmental disabilities. Catholic Social Teaching will be highlighted during this mission trip.  

Participants in the Mexican Border mission trip spend their spring break traveling to Nogales, Arizona, to grow in their understanding of immigration and the issues surrounding this complex issue. Students will hear first-hand accounts from immigrants, border patrol agents, missionaries and those who serve the immigrant population along the U.S.-Mexico border. The Kino Border Initiative coordinates this journey, open to select juniors and seniors with an interest in immigration.

The Tanzania Mission Trip is organized through the St. Peter Claver Jesuit School in Dodoma, Tanzania. Students will participate in cultural immersion, education, and service. This trip provides a unique perspective on the universal challenges of poverty, education, equality, and ecology. Participants will have an opportunity to go on safari. A highlight of this experience will be our student team co-leading a Kairos Retreat for the St. Peter Claver students. Participants will enter into the joyful faith life of our Tanzanian sisters and brothers through vibrant prayers, songs, and liturgies.
