Mr. Thomas Healey '77 graduated from Saint Ignatius High School and attended the University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate work in philosophy, Theology and classical languages. He holds a master’s degree in Religious Studies from John Carroll University. Tom received the Fr. John J. Rossing, S.J. Award in 2003 and the Ignatian Educator of the Year Award in 2008. In 2015 he was chosen by senior members of the Student Senate as the recipient of the Fr. Lawrence M. Ober, S.J. Award which is given to a lay faculty member who inspires students both inside and outside the classroom.

Tom is in his 38th year as a member of the Theology Department, teaching a number of courses at all grade levels. He presently teaches Christian Manhood and The Paschal Mystery to seniors. For 7 years he was head of the Theology Department, and he also coached in the soccer program for 15 years. During his career he has moderated The Ignatian (yearbook), Vista (literary magazine), the Inklings, the Tolkien Club, the Notre Dame Club, and the Multicultural Student Union. With Jim Brennan ’85 he started the Kick-It for Kevin kickball tournament to raise money for pediatric cancer research.

Since the spring of 2015 Tom has authored Lessons from Loyola Hall a twice weekly blog on the school’s website focusing on Catholic culture and life at Saint Ignatius. Recently he began broadcasting a weekly version of “Lessons” with Ian Thompson ’19 of The Eye online student newspaper.

Tom and his wife Ann, who is a private tutor, have been married for 36 years. They have two children – the late Kevin Healey, Class of 2007, and Mary Kate Healey, a professional graphic designer and photographer. The Healeys reside in Fairview Park and attend St. Vincent de Paul Parish.
