Saint Ignatius High School

Drama

The Harlequins have a rich 75-year history at Saint Ignatius. Each season, students join with girls from area high schools to produce a play in the fall and a musical in the spring.

"My experience with the Harlequins has been a formative part of my time at Saint Ignatius because it was my first experience of the brotherhood that Ignatius is so known for. I have developed in all aspects of theater whether it be on stage, behind a camera, or building a set. If you're looking for a bonding experience and a creative way to express your love for the arts, the Harlequins is for you."

The Harlequins have a rich history at Saint Ignatius for more than 75 years. Each season, students join with girls from area high schools to produce a play in the fall and a musical in the spring.

There are various ways for students to get involved in our shows, whether it is onstage, backstage, or in the orchestra pit. Learn more about our productions and how to get invovled below!

Spring Musical:
"How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying"

Join the Saint Ignatius Harlequins for their spring musical performance of "How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying" on April 20-21, and 25-27. All shows will be performed in The Breen Center for the Performing Arts.

About How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying:
A satire of big business and all it holds sacred, How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying follows the rise of J. Pierrepont Finch, who uses a little handbook called How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying to climb the corporate ladder from lowly window washer to high-powered executive, tackling such familiar but potent dangers as the aggressively compliant "company man," the office party, backstabbing coworkers, caffeine addiction and, of course, true love. Note for parents and guardians: This production has references to sex.

Fall Play:
"Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic"

Stage and Technical Crew

Students have the opportunity to learn and work in a state-of-the-art theater while mentoring with professionals who excel in their fields. All those wishing to join stage crew will be trained in how to work the shop: building, power tools, and theatre etiquette. Those wishing to join build crew are not obligated to work run crew. Build crew meets 3:30-6:30 Monday through Thursday. Run crew members will be selected further into the show process.

The Harlequins' mentor program is unparalleled. We believe that students should be empowered to discover themselves as artists rather than just watching others design. Our professional mentors in stage management, light design, sound design, set design, costume design, props, and electrical maintenance supervise our student designers so that, in collaboration with the director, they can create a production. Interested students first work to learn the ropes of their area, then may be selected to work as assistant to our junior and senior designers and managers. Our students leave their time with the Harlequins able to work and design at the professional level.
