THE 1521 SOCIETY will meet TODAY, FRIDAY, February 24th after school at the Jesuit Residence.  Whether you are discerning a call to the Jesuits, to diocesan priesthood, or a call to minister in any capacity, or are simply curious about the life of a Jesuit.  Stop by the Jesuit Residence this Friday after school.  We will start with prayer at the Jesuit Residence chapel at 3:05 and then have pizza.  Our guest speakers will be three Jesuit novices from St. Paul, MN who have recently finished the 30-day Spiritual Exercises. They will share about their journey to the Jesuits and what it has been like in their first year.  Meet at the wooden gate on 30th street after school. If you have any questions feel free to come by Campus Ministry to see Mr. DeStazio.

 

T-SHIRTS: Beginning Monday, Women's History Month t-shirts will be available for purchase.  The shirts are long-sleeve and may be worn on Wednesdays in March. Shirts cost $15 and all proceeds go to Laura's Home Women's Crisis Center.

 

BILLIARDS CLUB:  Attention billiards club members, we will be playing the February tournament this Tuesday February 28 at river city billiards. Stop and see Mr Wimbiscus today  or  Monday if you intend to play. New members are welcome.

 

STATE OF THE C.A.T.:  All students are invited to attend the State of the C.A.T. meeting on Thursday, March 2, at 3 p.m. in the Library. Kym Skerl, wife of the late Jim Skerl '74, will be the featured speaker. Mystery pizza and mystery drink will be provided. Students of all four years are welcome, even if you've never been to C.A.T. before.

 

IN HONOR OF BLACK HISTORY MONTH, TODAY, Friday, Feb. 24th at 7pm in the Breen Center, Saint Ignatius presents "The Evolution of Gospel Music - A Praise and Worship Experience."  The Cat-O-Tonics will open the show, along with other student performers.

Pat Harris, Rod Dixon and Lafayette Carthon and Faith will lead you on a journey through different genres of gospel music. All SIHS students/faculty and staff attend for FREE.  This concert is also open to the community. Tickets are $15 for adults and $7 for students and can be purchased online or at the door. 

If you enjoyed the music at our Unity Prayer Service, then you won't want to miss this high energy, interactive show.  Come out and support your fellow students.

 

 

ARRUPE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS would like you to share your talents with 3rd-8th grade students.  Maybe you are athletic, good at math, musically inclined, like to build with legos, or something else.  Come share your talents.  Pick up an application for the Spring season at the Arrupe House, online or talk to Mr. Valletta for more information.

 

National Honor Society Applications for 2017-2018:

Applications are now available for the 2017-2018 National Honors Society at Saint Ignatius High School, the Patricia Gaski chapter.

Membership into the society is not only a recognition and honor, but includes responsibilities related to the chapter's programming. This programming is student-led and facilitated, with its aims being the promotion of scholarship, leadership, character, and service. Other service and involvement on campus (non-NHS activities) which are required for admission, should be maintained.

 

This application is for current JUNIORS ONLY. If interested, please read through all of the application materials that will be emailed to the Class of 2018. Only 50 members will be selected this year.

If interested, please submit those application materials no later than Tuesday March 21st at 8AM If you wish to be considered for admission. 

 

 

UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS SUMMER YOUTH VOLUNTEER PROGRAM: Interested in volunteering at University Hospitals this summer? Any student from age 15-18 years of age is eligible to apply. Selected participants volunteer for at least 8 weeks June-August for about 3-4 hours a week. Please visit the website for more information. Stop in to the School Counseling department if you have questions on how to apply.

Community Mass:  Fr. Benda, S.J. will celebrate Mass today during 7th period (12:30) in the Companions Chapel.  All are welcome to attend.

 

C.A.T.:  The Christian Action Team invites all students to come to our meeting TODAY at 3 p.m. in Loyola Hall Room 227. New members are always welcome. We meet every Thursday at 3 p.m. to meet, share and learn about Christian service on campus. Please join us. God bless.

 

Free, peer-led ACT tutoring sessions will begin today. Stop in the Library Classroom from 3-4 after school to begin studying for the April ACT. This week, our student-tutors will be going over the basics of the standardized test, and will start handing out in-depth practice packets in the weeks to come. The only way to get better is by studying, so make sure to stop by."

THE PRE-MED SOCIETY will be having a meeting, today, Wednesday after school in room 304 of the Clavius Science Center.  This is a Speaker Series event.  Our guest speakers will be from the Physical Therapy/Sports Medicine fields.  Please plan on attending this very engaging meeting.

GREEN TEAM:  Attention all Green Team members.  It's Tuesday, but it feels like a Monday.  So that must mean it is a recycling day!  Meet in the Atrium after school today to help care for creation with our weekly collection run.  New members always welcome.

 

BLOOD DRIVE: Attention all students 16 years of age and older: The next blood drive will be Thursday February 23rd in the Breen Center. Sign ups will begin Monday February 13th outside the senior lounge during lunch periods. Give the gift of life...donate blood!

IGNATIANS FOR LIFE: The Ignatians for Life Club invites you to join us to pray the rosary every Wednesday in St. Mary's Chapel at 7:30am.

 

DEBATE:  At the end of two days of competition for national qualifiers from the North Coast District, we are proud to announce that Leonardo Villa-Forte '19 and Henry Wade '19 are the undefeated champions in Policy Debate. The alternate in Policy Debate is Michael Trentel '17 and Thomas Kmet '19.

Dalonzo Curges '17 is our 1st alternated in POI, Jermaine Leonard '18 the 1st alternate in Original Oratory,  and Phu Duong '17 the 2nd alternate in Original Oratory.

What a great way to end a long weekend. Congrats to Rich Fujimoto, Kim Gross, and Sean Lavelle for the countless hours of support and coaching these outstanding young men. Nationals will be held in Birmingham, AL on June 18-23, 2017.

Thanks again to all the people who helped Saint Ignatius host this tournament in body or spirit, from Fr. Raymond Guiao, S.J. President, Mr. Dan Bradesca Principal, plant services, food services, security and our IT department, especially Kyle Keller.  And of course our supportive faculty.

Next up, state finals March 2-4, 2017 at Berea-Midpark H.S.
