School Closing Procedures

SNOW/EMERGENCY CLOSING INFORMATION

The Principal’s Office will notify the media if the school decides to close during unfavorable weather or other conditions. The school’s policy is to close only in the event of extreme weather conditions; decisions are made based on short and long-term meteorological reports.

While our goal is to have as many people as possible on campus when we are open, the school realizes that some students and employees live a significant distance from campus. Consequently, the administration does not expect individuals to place themselves in a dangerous situation to arrive here. We encourage you to use your best judgment in deciding whether it is safe to drive when confronted with severe weather.

Snow closing advisories:
The Principal’s Office uses a coded system to alert the media of a closing; this system is designed to prevent unauthorized personnel from calling the media. Closings will also be posted on the home page of SIHS website at http://www.ignatius.edu by 6:00 a.m.  A phone message will also be left on the school’s automated switch board.  Additionally, emails will be sent to the all students and all parents.

Delayed opening:

In the event inclement weather poses – for a limited period of time – an extraordinary risk to the safety of students and employees who drive to the school, the school will announce a DELAYED START.

Emergency Closing Communication for All Personnel Exclusive of Faculty

All staff personnel, other that maintenance and janitorial personnel, will report by 10:00 a.m. Maintenance and janitorial personnel are expected to maintain their regular schedule.  If weather conditions necessitate any change in this policy, the supervisor of each department will advise all of their employees as to the policy to be followed.  Otherwise all staff personnel will adhere to the 10:00 a.m. starting time.

Thank you for your cooperation in these matters.
