The 2012 Hall of Fame Inductees
Past Athletic Hall of Fame Recipients
Saint Ignatius Athletic Hall of Fame recipients are chosen based on a level of excellence in a particular sport (e.g. captain, team MVP, all district, all Ohio, etc.), especially as it relates to other teammates and the level of competition during the candidate's era. Consideration is also given to candidates who participated in multiple sports during their careers, even if their level of success varied in those sports. Finally, the committee attempts to select candidates that result in a class of inductees that appropriately represent the broad range of sports at Saint Ignatius High School.

John J. Wirtz Athlete of the Year Award
This award honors Mr. John Wirtz who, during his time at Saint Ignatius from 1948-1976, served as head coach of track, football, basketball, baseball, and as athletic director. The award is given to a senior athlete who has made a significant contribution to the sports program in more than one sport, has demonstrated academic ability, coachability, dedication and leadership, and exemplary behavior and citizenship. The coaches of the athletic department present a list of nominees to the student body who vote for the winner of this award. Listed below are the past winners of the Athlete of the Year Award. *Beginning in 1974 the Award was renamed in honor of John J. Wirtz.
