This is my fourteenth year as a Catholic educator, and it has been five years since I returned home to teach at Saint Ignatius. I truly believe I was called to my role and I see it far more as a vocation than a career. I love what I do and can see myself doing nothing else.

To that end, I truly believe that God continues to place me where I belong. I have found fulfillment in the classroom as a teacher and in the leadership I have been able to share as an administrator. I am now blessed to serve my alma mater as Principal, allowing me to help shape curriculum and promote Ignatian spirituality by working collaboratively with the entire Saint Ignatius community.

My hope for all men of Ignatius is to have the same experience I enjoyed back in the late 1980s. It is one where each boy we welcome into our community develops a personal relationship with his teachers, a relationship that fosters trust, inspiration, and a love of Jesus Christ. This is the hope I personally have for my own sons as well.

My father was a member of the Saint Ignatius High School class of 1965 and spent his career as a police officer for the City of Cleveland. There he saw both the good and the bad of humanity. He sent his sons to Saint Ignatius High School so that their experience would reflect the words of Peter-Hans Kolvenbach, S.J.: “Students, in the course of their formation, must let the gritty reality of this world into their lives, so they can learn to feel it, think about it critically, respond to its suffering and engage it constructively.”

I too have this wish for all men of Ignatius.
