Saint Ignatius High School

Arrupe Neighborhood Partnership

The community outreach arm of Saint Ignatius, Arrupe is the home to several after-school programs for neighborhood children and one of the city’s largest summer camps.

We work everyday to be good neighbors to the residents in the immediate neighborhood, seeking ways for our students and residents to interact and form relationships. My hope is that the more we know each others’ stories, the more we become better neighbors and the neighborhood remains a positive place to study, live, and work.

The Arrupe Neighborhood Partnership at Saint Ignatius High School is dedicated to the formation of students and the Saint Ignatius community as a whole by providing an opportunity to work and learn with neighboring residents, schools, churches and agencies in the areas of education, mentorship, recreation and good will.

Arrupe, a unique service and community-based program, is central to Saint Ignatius High School's focus on developing "Men for Others." We offer students and their parents an opportunity to become involved, serve others, build friendships, strengthen their faith, and ultimately to make a difference in the lives of neighborhood children and families in need. Arrupe sponsors a variety of after-school service programs and events throughout the school year and one of the city’s largest summer camps.

History of Arrupe

Arrupe was established in 1991 to strengthen the relationship between Saint Ignatius High School and the neighborhood community. In 1998, Arrupe moved to its current location at 2071 West 30th Street (down the street from Wendy's, next to Kyle Field). Since that time, many new programs and service opportunities have been developed to serve the needs of our neighbors and the Saint Ignatius community (students, faculty, staff and alumni).

The program is named for the late Fr. Pedro Arrupe, S.J., the 28th Superior General of the Society of Jesus. Through his leadership, Fr. Arrupe challenged Jesuit educators to focus on the importance of service to the poor and marginalized, to be agents of change in society, and to commit to a faith that acts for justice. Fr. Arrupe is responsible for the popular Jesuit phrase, "Men for Others," from which our school draws its motto.

After-school Programming - SIGN UP

Families with children in 3rd-8th grades at local public, private and charter schools in the Cleveland metropolitan area are invited to check out the Arrupe after-school program opportunities this school year. All programs run from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and are guided by students from Saint Ignatius High School and girls from area high schools.

Each program takes at least three field trips a year, and programs focus on healthy habits, education, recreation, technology and preparation for the future. Applications open up each August, but rolling admission exists during the school year. Call the Arrupe House at (216) 961-1260 for more information.
